Why We Don't Have a "Good" Instagram Page (And Why We Are Kind of Proud)
Feb 02, 2026
Editor’s Note:
I was recently asked by a client…who has been with us for 10 years….why Flash Fitness doesn't have a "gold" Instagram page. It’s a fair question in 2026.
This is my answer, based on 30 years of watching this industry change.
The 30-Second Summary:
- The Trade-off: To be in the top 1% of this profession requires absolute immersion in physiology and coaching. You cannot be an elite coach and a full-time video editor/script writer/film …well, you get the point.
- The Reality: Trainers who are posting 3 times a day usually have the time to do so because their client schedule is empty.
- The Metric: Don't judge a coach by their lighting or their follower count. Judge them by their tenure, their client retention, and their ability to solve problems in the real world.

I’ve been a trainer for 30 years. I’ve watched a lot of things change in the industry over that time. But that question about our Instagram really got me thinking.
Here is the truth: To be in the top percentile of any profession, absolute dedication and immersion in your craft are essential.
Top personal trainers…like the elite in any profession…are buried daily in their craft: working with clients, studying physiology, and constantly refining their skills. We aren't spending our limited time learning algorithms, perfecting lighting, doing SEO research, or editing reels.
We don't have a "content studio" because our true studio is on the gym floor.
Why You See So Many "Average" Trainers Online
This dedication-to-craft model helps explain why average (and below-average) trainers often dominate your social media feeds.
To be blunt: People who do not train real people, or struggle to keep a full client schedule, have lots of time. They have time to optimize content, post daily, and chase trends. They have the time because they aren't actually doing what REALLY matters…coaching and developing real-life expertise.
The "easy-to-find" trainers are often the ones prioritizing online presence over practical expertise. Their focus is on mastering the art of the perfect angle, not the art of metabolic regulation.
Real Expertise Isn't Loud
True expertise operates differently.
* It isn't viral-worthy or constantly seeking the spotlight.
* It isn't about manicuring an image or a perfectly staged photograph.
* It is hidden in the success stories, the life-changing results, and the relentless focus on getting better at the craft.
A certification alone doesn't make someone an expert. And a million followers doesn't make someone a coach.
The Pilot & The Surgeon
Consider this:
- Would you want your airplane pilot to spend their time talking about flying on TikTok, or would you prefer someone who has logged thousands of hours in the actual cockpit?
- Would you want a heart surgeon who watches other surgeons' videos to operate on you? Or the one who has successfully performed surgery on real people, day in and day out, for decades?
Fitness is no different. The real experts are out there. They simply don't have the time to play “influencer”. They aren't chasing clicks; they are too busy chasing REAL-LIFE excellence and making a difference in the lives of their clients.
Where to Find the Real Ones
You won't typically find the best coaches dominating your social media feed. Instead, you'll find them in the real results they've helped people achieve. You'll find them in the loyalty of clients who stick around for 10 years.
The truth is simple: The louder they are online, the less they might be doing offline.
